Instagram Workout Importer
RepExtract is an iPhone fitness app that imports Instagram workout Reels and multi-slide posts and converts them into structured workouts: every exercise, with sets, reps, rest periods, form tips, and a short clip of each move. Share a Reel from Instagram, and a minute later you have a plan you can follow and log at the gym.
How does the Instagram importer work?
- Share the Reel to RepExtract. On the Instagram Reel or post, tap the Share icon and choose RepExtract. Or tap Copy link and paste it into the RepExtract app or at repextract.com/extract.
- RepExtract reads the video. It watches the movements, reads the on-screen text and the caption, and transcribes the trainer's voice, then combines all four to identify every exercise. Most Reels take well under a minute.
- Save the structured workout. Review the exercises, sets, reps, rest, and clips, then save. Name the workout and tag the body parts it trains; it lands on your Want to Do shelf, ready to follow and log at the gym.
Nothing is downloaded. The workout stays credited to the creator, with their name and a link back to the original post on every workout.
What does RepExtract import from a Reel?
| Field | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Exercise names, in order | The movements on screen, on-screen text, the caption, and the voiceover |
| Sets and reps | On-screen text and the caption; spoken cues fill gaps |
| Rest periods | Caption and spoken cues, when the creator gives them |
| Form tips | Spoken cues and captions, kept with the exercise they apply to |
| A clip of each move | A short cut of the Reel (up to 10 seconds) showing that exercise |
| Creator credit | The creator's handle and a link to the original post and profile |
Which Instagram posts can be imported?
- Reels (instagram.com/reel/…), the most common workout format.
- Multi-slide posts (instagram.com/p/…) with up to 8 slides. Each slide, video or image, is read and combined into one workout in slide order, so one-exercise-per-slide posts import as a complete routine.
- Public posts only. Stories, Highlights, and posts from private accounts can't be imported.
What happens after the import?
It goes into a library built for training
Every imported workout sits on a status shelf (Want to Do, Done, Did Not Finish) and on the body-part shelves you tag, and you can filter by both at once. Custom shelves can be added from your library on the web. For the full system, see how to organize your saved workout reels.
You follow it and log it
Start a session from any workout, work through the exercises with the clip of each move beside its sets and reps, and log your sets, reps, and weight. Finishing moves the workout to Done.
Others can find it
Imported workouts appear in the community Discover feed, credited to the creator, where friends can save them and leave reviews. Creators can ask for any workout to be removed through the content policy.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Instagram workout importer?
It's how RepExtract turns an Instagram workout Reel or multi-slide post into a structured workout. You share the post to the RepExtract iPhone app (or paste the link on the web), and RepExtract returns every exercise in order with sets, reps, rest periods, form tips, and a short clip of each move, saved to a library you can train from.
Which Instagram posts can I import?
Public Reels and public multi-slide posts (up to 8 slides, video or image). Stories, Highlights, and posts from private accounts can't be imported. Both instagram.com/reel/… and instagram.com/p/… links work.
Does RepExtract download the Instagram video?
No. RepExtract doesn't download or export the creator's original media. It reads a public post and produces structured workout data — exercise names, sets, reps, rest, and short clips — credited to the creator with a link back to the original post and their profile. Creators can request removal of any workout through the content policy.
How does it find the exercises?
From four sources at once: the movements visible in the footage, the on-screen text, the caption, and the trainer's spoken cues. When the caption lists the workout, it's treated as the authority on exercise names and rep schemes, so silent Reels with the program in the description still import completely.
Do I need the app, or does it work on the web?
Both. The iPhone app adds the share-sheet shortcut from Instagram and lets you log sets during a session. The web tool at repextract.com/extract accepts a pasted link in any browser and saves to the same library. Both need a free RepExtract account.
How long does an import take?
Most Reels take well under a minute. Longer videos and multi-slide posts take a little longer. In the app you can leave the screen and get a notification when the workout is ready.
Is the Instagram importer free?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 imports (extractions) per month, and Premium is unlimited. See repextract.com/pricing.
